SCROLL OF HONOR

Client:  Clemson University
Location:  Clemson, SC

*Design by T.J. Dixon & James Nelson in collaboration with Barry Anderson, landscape architect, Clemson University and Urban Edge Studio.
The Scroll of Honor is a memorial to honor Clemson alumni that gave their lives in service to their country. The design of this memorial is steeped in the ancient legacy of the burial of the warrior. The barrow represents the unbroken circle of life and death. Each stone at the base of the barrow, in its uniqueness, represents the uniqueness of each life lost in service. The ring of stone around the barrow creates a symbol of Clemson’s unbroken service to our country. A perfect circle of trees leaning inward, one flowing into another, embraces the barrow, creating a sacred space for quiet reflection. The life-size bronze tigers, the Clemson mascot, at the entrance act as the guardians at the gate of the memorial.
