THE PORTRAIT PROJECT
James Nelson's recent sculptural endeavor of a large-scale undertaking is known as The Portrait Project, a series of life-size busts in terracotta. This ongoing comprehensive body of work, which began in 2019, is meant to develop over the course of the entire life of the project. The individual portraits are meant to reveal an honest aspect of each sitter’s personality. While each portrait represents an individual, the portraits are also meant to work together as one cohesive collection of 40 sculptures... and still counting...
